President - Joanna Granett
Joanna's love of history comes from an early age when she found she was fascinated with the architecture of the many old buildings in England, where she was born.
As well as the President of the Dania Beach Historical Society, Joanna got involved in the goings on in the City of Dania Beach over 10 years ago when she became a Dania Beach Ambassador. Joanna is also currently actively involved in Dania Beach city itself serving on the Public Arts Advisory Board, the Green Advisory Board and an alternate for the Planning and Zoning Board and Charter Review Board. Joanna is also a member and volunteer with the Dania Beach Lions Club and an active member of the Dania Beach Improvement Committee, and more recently she joined the city's Dania Beach Program for Public Information Committee.
A favorite hobby and pastime is spent scouring antiques stores, flea markets, garage sales and online antique auctions.
Joanna's love for history isn't just limited to visiting historical sites, she also enjoys reading books and watching documentaries about various periods in history, from ancient civilizations to modern-day-events, but most especially she loves researching Dania Beach's history.
Joanna looks forward to what history will be uncovered of Broward County's first City and looks even more forward to sharing it with you along the way.

Kathy Cerminara has been a law professor at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law for more than 20 years. She has lived in central Miramar in Broward County for that entire time. Before she moved to Broward County, Kathy lived in Coconut Grove, where she served as a volunteer docent at the Barnacle Historic State Park. She also was then and has remained a member of History Miami (formerly the Historical Museum of South Florida) and the Barnacle Society (the not-for-profit citizen support organization for the Barnacle).
In addition to her longstanding interest in local history, Kathy’s career illustrates her ability to contribute to DBHS in at least two ways. First, she is well-equipped to conduct research and write about Dania Beach’s history. As a law professor, she does an immense amount of necessarily detail-oriented research, and she has published articles, chapters, and a co-authored book based upon that research. https://www.law.nova.edu/files/Kathy-Cerminara_CV.pdf.
Second, her job is flexible enough to facilitate volunteering. Currently she is teaching a reduced class schedule because she is winding down her career. That, combined with her reasonably close location (directly west of Hollywood), enables her to invest time into the DBHS. Although she is an attorney, Kathy will not be able to handle legal work for the DBHS, as she is not admitted to practice in Florida; she most recently practiced law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, more than 30 years ago.
